2022 Chevrolet Corvette

The History of the Corvette

Perhaps the most iconic Chevrolet vehicle, the Corvette was first introduced in 1953. Production for the car began in Flint, Michigan, where the first 300 models were built by hand. The Corvette's production was later moved to St. Louis, Missouri before finally arriving in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where they are still manufactured today.

The car that would become known as "America's Sports Car" started life as a concept "dream car" at General Motors' Motorama show. Chevrolet introduced coupe and convertible styles of the 'Vette in 1963. The car rose to even more tremendous popularity after American audiences saw it in action on the early 1960s television show Route 66.

Despite humble beginnings, this classic American sports car reached legendary status and became synonymous with freedom and the thrill of the open road.

The Modern Corvette

Corvettes continue to be known for their incredible speed. A Modern Corvette equipped with a Z51 Performance Package can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds. This is the fastest time of any entry Corvette.

The Corvette C8, introduced in 2019, is the first GM rear mid-engine production car since the 1984 Pontiac Fiero. It's the first production Corvette to feature this kind of configuration. The C8 is also notable for being the first Corvette offered without a traditional manual transmission.

The base engine of the Corvette C8 is a naturally aspirated V8 engine, capable of generating 495 horsepower and 470 lb/ft of torque when equipped with the Z51 Performance Package or the performance exhaust package. Newer versions of the 'Vette also feature fuel management system upgrades with new fuel pumps and injectors.

As of 2022, a fully electric version of the Chevrolet Corvette is said to be in development. The Corvette continues to adapt to modern tastes while preserving the sleek, stylish appeal that gave it popularity in the first place. As technology evolves, so too does the Corvette, keeping its fans happy with all the modern amenities an everyday driver needs.
