Indianapolis, IN Ford F150

In 1948 the Ford F-150s were known as the Ford Bonus-Built trucks. The very first truck Ford ever built was actually called the Ford Model TT due to its heavy influence in design from the original Model T. However, from 1948 to 1952, Ford introduced the first generation of F-series trucks. While these trucks may not seem like much today, these trucks had some of the most advanced technology for their time. These trucks featured a manual transmission, a driver and passenger side windshield wipers, and a foot plunger for the windshield washer. This was pretty incredible.

During WWII, Ford produced trucks that would help support our troops and allies and would be later recognized along with the troops themselves. The second generation came out between 1953 to 1956. This generation brought a completely new design and look to the truck. The engine, chassis, and interior were all updated. It was during this generation that Ford changed the model series from F-1 through F-8 to F-100 through F-350. This name change remains even today. The F-1 became the F-100 series. The F-2 and 3 became the F-250 series, and the F-4 became the F-350 series.

As previously mentioned, it was around this time that the F-100 got a new engine design. It got a 239 CID overhead-valve, Y-block V8 engine. Because of the powerful engine, it gained the nickname the Power King.

Over the many decades, this truck went through several design changes and upgrades to the engine, suspension, as well as the look of the truck. Throughout the 60s to about the 80s, the F-150 had a very boxy and square design. It wasn't until about the 90s that it sported a rounder look.

During Ford's fiftieth anniversary, Ford promoted the F-series truck by creating an ad with the classic 1948 version in the background of a 1998 model. By now, the F-150 had a fully independent front suspension, a new chassis, and a rear-hinge curb-side door to access the rear seat.

Today, the legacy of the Ford F-150  continues. The latest 2022 models come in the XLT, Lariat, and XL editions. It is considered to be the best in its class for available towing and payload. You get a Pro Power Onboard that offers you to use your truck as a generator on wheels. Also, the interior is equipped with features such as SYNC®, so you can always stay connected no matter where you go.
