We Sell Authentic Used Ford Rangers | Indianapolis, IN

2022 Ford RangerYou might be on the fence about whether or not used Ford Rangers Indianapolis, IN are worth purchasing. It's true that Ford's most popular pickup, the Ford F-150®, is an excellent choice for truck fans, but there are plenty of reasons to choose a Ranger.

Used cars and trucks already have an inherent advantage over new vehicles because they've already experienced their initial decrease in value. Buying a used car is also good for the environment, as it keeps one less new vehicle on the road. A quality used truck is a good investment, but if that's the case, why not just choose a used F-150?

If you want a large, powerful pickup with multiple configurations and powertrain options, you might be keener on the F-150. However, if you're satisfied with a slightly smaller truck that's similar to the F-150 but offers better fuel economy, good towing, and more maneuverability, then a used Ranger might be the next truck for you.

Don Hinds Ford, Inc. has a regularly rotating inventory of both used and new vehicles for sale, and we occasionally have used Ford Rangers Indianapolis, IN available. Call us today to ask a friendly sales team member about our current stock. If you find a vehicle you like using our online catalog or model showroom, feel free to ask us about taking one of our cars for a test drive.

2022 Ford RangerHistory of the Ford Ranger®

The Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Ranger® in 1983 as a compact pickup truck. It was designed to compete with the famous small pickups of the day, such as the Chevy S-10 and Dodge Dakota. This pickup was meant to replace the Mazda-produced Ford Courier and used a single chassis architecture. The very first Ranger was powered by a 2.3L four-cylinder engine and came with either a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission.

The 1980s Ranger wasn't actually Ford's first vehicle to bear the Ranger nameplate. That distinction goes to three entirely different model lines: 1958's Edsel Ranger, a sedan; a trim package in 1965 for the F-Series trucks; and a 1972 Bronco Ranger. The F-Series discontinued its Ranger trim in anticipation of the first Ranger compact pickup truck model.

The Ford Ranger underwent several updates and design changes throughout its long production run. In 1993, the Ranger received a significant redesign that included larger engines, revised styling, an improved suspension, and more interior room. In 1998, Ford redesigned the Ranger again, introducing a new front grille and hood, as well as larger brakes.

In 2001, the Ranger was updated once more with a new face and a larger interior. Ford introduced a facelifted Ranger in 2005 with a new exterior design, more powerful engine options, and a redesigned interior. Unfortunately, in 2011, Ford discontinued the Ranger in North America due to declining sales of compact trucks. The last one was assembled on December 22, 2011, at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant, which was also the final vehicle the plant would produce.

However, the Ranger returned to the U.S. market eight years later as a mid-size pickup. Modern Ford Rangers are available and have more powerful engines than ever before.

2022 Ford RangerThe Modern Ranger, Revived

New Ford Rangers are well-suited for off-road travel and built for enduring extreme conditions. If you've been looking for an adventure buddy, this is it! Its high ground clearance of 8.9 inches makes it easier to climb hills and tackle obstacles. Rangers with the Tremor® Off-Road Package have an even higher ground clearance of 9.7 inches.

The Ford Ranger is ready to carry all the equipment you need with available accessories like carriers and racks. You'll have no problem lugging trail bikes, pickup bed tents, and kayaks when you properly outfit your Ranger. Plenty of used Ford Rangers Indianapolis, IN already have these kinds of accessories installed, which will save you the effort of buying them and installing them yourself!

Regarding the interior, Rangers are available with either SuperCab or SuperCrew® cabins. The former has room for two people up front and two in the rear. It comes equipped with bucket seats and under-seat storage. XL models have the option for a rear seat delete to make even more space in the back.

The SuperCrew comfortably seats five people, allowing them entry to the vehicle through four full-size doors. If you want to prioritize room for people, it may be better to look for a used Ranger with this cabin style.

Though previous model years of the Ranger had more trim packages available, the smaller lineup of trims still has some tempting contenders. The Ranger is available in XL, XLT, and LARIAT trim styles. In addition to these models, there are several packages that you can purchase to upgrade and customize your Ranger to your liking.

If you're upset that you missed out on older trim styles, there's no reason to worry - that's one of the many ways you can benefit from shopping for used Ford Rangers Indianapolis, IN instead of new ones. Consider giving the rugged Ranger a try, even if it's a little extra rugged from previous owners.
