Getting a brand-new car doesn't need to be a hassle. At Don Hinds Ford, Inc., we work hard to make the buying process easier for you. We believe that the purchase of a new vehicle should be an exciting time of celebration, not an annoying headache. Let us make the process even easier for you when you let us put your used vehicle's value towards the purchase of a new car.

If you want to know what your car is worth, there are plenty of online tools that can help you get a rough estimate of its value. We recommend using the Value Your Trade tool on our website because we use the Edmunds system to estimate your car's True Market Value (TMV®). It uses a vast collection of data from thousands of car sales across hundreds of dealerships in the United States to calculate your trade-in's worth. It's quite a useful tool if you're not sure what your budget is and need to know how much a trade-in can potentially add to a new car purchase.

The price the tools provide, of course, is only a basic picture of what your car's value truly is. For the most accurate appraisal, you'll need to visit our Fishers dealership during open hours so we can inspect your vehicle in person. That way, we can check its exterior and interior as well as ensure all of its parts are working correctly. Once we get a proper look at it, we can give you a true estimate of its value that is usually much higher than what you'll receive from an online-only inspection.

2022 Ford BroncoHow to Use the Value Your Trade Tool

Online inspections are still helpful to give you a general idea of what your car is worth, so feel free to use ours if you like. To make the most of ours, you'll need to provide our tool with an accurate description of your vehicle, starting from its make, model, and year. Please also take note of your car's interior and exterior colors as well as its trim type and any extra features it has. For example, if you chose an all-wheel drive vehicle with a more powerful engine, it might have a higher value than a standard model from the same year that lacks those features.

Perhaps the most important part of the tool (and the one that will affect your car's estimated value the most) is your description of the car's condition. There are several condition categories listed for the Edmunds tool that correspond to different damage levels of a used vehicle. We'll briefly describe them below:

  • Outstanding - Only about 5% of used vehicles manage to fit into this category. Your car must be in excellent, nearly pristine condition with no visible wear, and it must require no reconditioning. It may be tempting to list your car as "Outstanding," but unless it's basically spotless and runs like it's brand new, you probably shouldn't choose this condition.
  • Clean - This condition is a lot more forgiving than "Outstanding," but it still requires that your car has as little wear and tear as possible. 38% of used cars fit in this category. Yours may fit here if it has minimal damage, requires little to no reconditioning, and has no major mechanical or cosmetic issues.
  • Average - Your car most likely will fit into this condition category along with 45% of all other used vehicles. A car labeled "Average" has normal wear and tear that's expected from everyday use, may have some mechanical or cosmetic issues, and could require some reconditioning before it's put up for sale. If your car is a little more scratched up than a "Clean" car, it probably belongs here instead.
  • Rough - Cars under the "Rough" condition are pretty self-explanatory. These account for 9% of used cars and usually have several cosmetic and mechanical issues. They also most likely require significant reconditioning before they can be resold. If your car has been in numerous accidents and has very visible wear and tear, it might belong in this category.
  • Damaged - The lowest category and possibly the least-desired, cars in this condition cannot be estimated using Edmunds tools. Any car in this category, which accounts for 3% of used vehicles, has major damage to its body, massive mechanical issues, serious cosmetic issues, and may be unsafe to drive or operate. You can still estimate its value for yourself by entering information for an "Average" vehicle of the same type and then subtracting the cost of restoring it to that condition from its value.

Be as honest and transparent as possible when you describe the car's condition. That way, there will be no major surprises if you bring the car to our dealership and it ends up getting a lower condition grade and value than you originally estimated. Once we value your vehicle, you can put it towards any of our great new or used cars. Stop by today to take a look at what we have for sale, and consider selling us your used vehicle!
