The Long History of the Ford Mustang

The idea of the Mustang was based off of the compact Falcon. Vice President and general manager of Ford, Lee Iacocca, wanted a car that was sporty and attracted a younger crowd. The development of the Ford Mustang was completed on a "shoe-string" budget in a very short amount of time. During the World's Fair on April 17th, 1964, Ford presented their Ford vehicle, and it was an instant hit. For the first year, they planned for 100,000 cars to be sold. However, on the first day, dealers sold 22,000. This was a whole new genre of vehicles known as "pony cars."

The very first generation of Mustangs came out in 1965 that had several production changes after the 1964 model was shown. By that time, Ford had already sold 120,000 Mustangs. Ford had begun to release the convertible and notchback body styles. Soon after that came the fastback joining in late 1965.

Buyers had the option to make their vehicle into an everyday vehicle or into an all-out racing car. Ford went sold over seven times over the projected estimate. Needless to say, the Ford Mustang was an incredible hit with the public.

The original Mustang had a 170-CID straight-six, 4.3-liter, V-8 engine. There was also an option for the 289-CID-V-8 that had up to 271 horsepower. With the '65 model, Ford enlarged the straight-six engine to a 200-CID. By 1966 the Mustang was roaring its way on the streets with its powerful motor. There was no mistaking the sound of a Ford Mustang engine.

By 1967, the size of the Mustang grew in almost every way. This was to accommodate the bIg-block engine, which by then was a 390-CID, V-8 engine. This produced about 335 horsepower, which beat out the 289 as the top engine. For drag racers, Ford created a 428-CID Cobra Jet V-8 engine. This engine put out about 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque.

Ford Mustang performance and experience upgradesOver the years, the Ford Mustang grew to accommodate that ever-growing engine. However, around the mid to late 70s, the Ford Mustang started to shrink in size. By 1974, Ford created the Mustang II, which was a subcompact based on the stretched Pinto. This vehicle had the engine choice of a 2.3 liter, four-cylinder, or the 2.8-liter V-6. This was considered to be the upscale economy car for that time. It came out right as the oil fiasco took place during that time.
Mustangs continued to be more compact around that time all the way up into the 90s and early 2000s. It wasn't until 2005 that Ford came out with a model that nodded to its early predecessor and original design Mustang. The early 2005 to 2014 models have a sportier look with a squared shape. It also has a base V-6 4.0 liter engine that produces 210 horsepower. It was because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews that companies such as Chrysler started bringing back their classics, such as the Dodge Challenger.

Mustang Mach-E

Today, Ford has put out the first-ever all-electric Mustang Mach-E, which has an EV platform that can either have a single-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. This Mustang offers power ratings from 255 horsepower in the standard rear-wheel drive to 459 horsepower in the all-wheel-drive GT.

The "slowest" model Ford Mustang Mach E can go from 0 to 60 mph in the mid-six-second range. However, the GT models are said to do it in the mid threes.
Because this is an all-electric vehicle, there is no use for a traditional engine. When you open the hood, you will find enough space to fit a decent size cooler. You can use this extra space to fit just about anything you need, along with the twenty-nine cubic feet of trunk storage in the back.

There are three driving modes with the Mustang Mach-E; Whisper, Engage, and Unbridled. All of these options are available for one-pedal-driving. If you are unfamiliar with one-pedal-driving, it allows you to slow down or stop the car as you lift your foot off the pedal. The benefit of using one-pedal driving is it takes the pressure off of your brakes and rotors when you are in stop-and-go traffic.
